Common Questions

FAQ

How should I store fresh mushrooms?

Store mushrooms in a paper bag in the refrigerator. The paper allows them to breathe while absorbing excess moisture. Avoid plastic bags as they trap moisture and accelerate spoilage.

How long do UnderOak mushrooms stay fresh?

When stored properly, our mushrooms stay fresh for 7-10 days. Unlike conventional mushrooms that may already be several days old when you buy them, ours reach you within 6 hours of harvest.

Should I wash mushrooms before cooking?

We recommend a quick rinse just before cooking, then patting dry. Mushrooms absorb water easily, so never soak them. A soft brush can remove debris without adding moisture.

Can I freeze fresh mushrooms?

Yes! Sauté them first with a little butter or oil, then freeze. Raw mushrooms become mushy when frozen due to their high water content.
